2007 CSR Showcase — By csr on May 26, 2008 atAt the inaugural PM’s CSR Awards, Masterskill College of Nursing and Health was singled out for its exceptional CSR Programme. Masterskill’s CSR Programme falls within three categories - Education, Community & Charity and Nation Building.
The organisation provides research grants, offers scholarships to needy children and orang asli, sponsors medical and healthcare equipment for homes, supports community and social activities, contributes manpower, intellectual expertise and advisory services, conducts community based training at charitable homes and encourages student activities that involve giving back to society.
Masterskill has made CSR a part of its culture to contribute towards sustainable economic development through working with employees, their families, the local community and Government agencies. Masterskill helps many young Malaysians fulfil their dreams of securing careers in healthcare by providing financial support for worthy students. It is highly committed to meeting the national call to for more qualified healthcare personnel.
The two other companies that earned honourable mentions were Nu Skin (M) Sdn Bhd and Rampai Niaga Sdn Bhd.
Nu Skin (M) Sdn Bhd which commenced its corporate social responsibility programme in 2003. Since this time, Nu Skin has been working with under privileged children in Sentul, providing basic necessities such as education, healthcare, food and a better living environment. Nu Skin focuses its programmes on helping children, continuing indigenous cultures and protecting fragile environments. The company is active in fundraising and charity drives and the number of children benefiting from Nu Skin’s projects continues to grow.
Rampai Niaga Sdn Bhd which is better known for its Body Shop outlets in Malaysia has been in operations since 1984 and since its formation has been an active advocate for social & environmental issues which are part of its core philosophy. The Body Shop has looked at key issues facing Malaysia and has tried to make a difference by actively taking part in or campaigning for projects that deserve support.
In the 2006/2007 period, The Body Shop continued its Stop Violence against Women campaign, introduced education campaigns to create awareness of global warming, and HIV/AIDS, and participated actively in a petition campaign to gazette the Belum-Temengor area as a National Park.
Its campaign against domestic violence has been going for more than 8 years now and the company intends to sustain this commitment in the years to come. A key aspect of this campaign has been the partnership formed with NGOs working to help women affected by domestic violence and to make known the kind of support services that are available to those who need support to escape abusive circumstances.
The Prime Minister’s CSR Awards, launched by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development in 2007, aims to recognise companies that have made a difference to the communities in which they operate through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.
