In order to attract top talent, Intel Malaysia has created a work culture that revolves around diversity, being a great place to work, and living up to its status as a leading technology company.
Diversity
A Women at Intel Network (WIN) has been formed to demonstrate the value of a diverse workforce by encouraging women to achieve their full potential. At the same time, diversity indicators in hiring, career progression and career evaluation are reviewed regularly. With the belief that all employees can contribute regardless of age, the company has also lifted the mandatory retirement age.
A Great Place to Work
Intel treats its employees as partners, hence communication between all levels is open and honest. Employees are recognised for good work and creativity, and there are guidelines to protect employee privacy such as their personal particulars and job history. Monetary and special programmes are also put in place to help those in need.
A wide range of flexible programmes like alternate start time and part-time employment are implemented to help employees achieve a work-life balance. Employees particularly appreciate the no-meeting policy on Friday afternoons, which means they can wrap up for the week at a decent hour in anticipation of a restful weekend. Employees who have to stop work for up to a year can opt for prolonged leave of absence.
In addition to market competitive salaries, Intel Malaysia employees participate in two profit-sharing plans – Employee Cash Bonus and Employee Bonus. They are also given free company stocks and can opt to purchase more on their own. Employees are further given the option to choose the medical plan that best meets their needs at low premiums. Dental and vision correction coverage is available on a subsidised basis. Other benefits include vehicle and housing loan subsidies.
Towards creating a fun atmosphere, a game room/corner is available at every building and canteen. Drinks, ice-cream and fruit are provided for free. Rather like a campus, there are inter-building shuttles, convenience stores and ATM machines.
Leading Technology Company
Intel University offers comprehensive programmes to develop employees at all levels. There are also programmes to facilitate the transitioning of employees from one role to another. As employees are groomed, the company plans ahead by focusing on a good cross-functional succession planning, aiming to build strong bench strength for future challenges by capitalising on each individual’s talent and ability.
Putting employee health and safety above business, Intel Malaysia has in-house health centres run by certified nurses and visiting doctors. Specials mother’s rooms have been set up while numerous well-being programmes have been introduced. Employees also have access to tennis and basketball courts and futsal fields. In addition, external professional counselling is made available.
The Prime Minister’s CSR Awards, launched by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development in 2007, aims to recognise companies that have made a difference to the communities in which they operate through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.
