At the launch of the National Welfare Year in 2006, the Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah bin Hj Ahmad Badawi announced the creation of a special awards programme to recognise Malaysian companies that are making a contribution to society through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. My Ministry is now calling for the submission of entries for the Prime Minister’s CSR Awards as they will be known. It is my pleasure to invite your company to participate in this programme.

The Ninth Malaysia Plan has reaffirmed the importance of close collaboration between the Government and corporate sector to achieve the nation’s social and economic goals. The challenge of creating a better world for Malaysians cannot be borne by Government alone. With these Awards, we hope to encourage businesses, both large and small, to adopt a philosophy of shared responsibility wherein community interests are seen as an integral part of their business strategy.

It is heartening to see so many companies in Malaysia already engaged in bringing benefits to the community and country through CSR projects and programmes. We believe that by recognising and showcasing these efforts through the Prime Minister’s CSR Awards, other companies will see the significant benefits of incorporating CSR into their planning and processes.

The Prime Minister will present the awards to the winners at a CSR Awards high-tea scheduled to be held in November 2007. We look forward to your participation and attendance at the Prime Minister’s CSR Awards afternoon.

Yours sincerely,

Dato’ Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development
