2010 Best Workplace practices: Telekom Malaysia wins again

This is the second consecutive year TM has won a PM’s CSR Award for Best Workplace practices. The corporation has continue to build on its winning formula for maintaining happy employees.

By emphasising the need to have initiatives in place that foster the development of its employees, TM motivates its 26,000 employees to build a positive corporate culture. 2010 Small Company CSR: Saito College and Akar Insan score for Small Company CSR

The companies honoured in 2010 for their CSR programmes have shown that one does not have to be amassive corporation in order to touch lives and influence positive change in society.

The winning submission was from Saito College which embarked on its  programme to empowering rural and financially disadvantaged youths in September 2009. It offers merit-based and need-based scholarships secured from “work and study” schemes, additional bursaries, as well as MARA and PTPTN loans. To maintain its students’ socio-cultural engagement, student-initiated clubs and societies provide healthy communal integration. Additional English lessons by qualified lecturers ensure language proficiency for an all-round better learning experience. Malakoff wins 2010 Award for environmental CSR

Malakoff Corporation Berhad was the winner of the 2010 PM’s CSR Award for the Environment for its contributions towards environmental rehabilitation and boosting energy efficiency.

Environmental conservation coupled with energy efficiency is a key aspect of Malakoff’s Community Partnerships. Malaysia’s largest independent power producer is implementing environment-friendly initiatives across its operations, undertaking grassroots CSR programmes that impact local communities and target stakeholders. It has also kick-started enterprise-wide thought leadership initiatives on “green” energy, and the company has installed grid-integrated solar panels in six schools as part of its Green Schools programme, which will be extended to 20 schools.
