2009 Honouree: True Shangri-Las on Earth

If there were an imaginary earthly paradise, Shangri-la’s resorts would come very close to it. The Shangri-La group of hotels is making concerted efforts at respecting mother nature and keeping its environmental footprint as faint as possible.

As a founding member of the Asia Pacific Environmental Initiative, it has implemented Green Programmes in all its properties. This can be seen in two of its submissions for the Prime Minister’s CSR Awards under the Environment category: for the Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa in Kota Kinabalu and Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. 2009 Winner: Intel – From land to the ocean

Intel strives continuously to push the boundaries of innovation to make lives more exciting, fulfilling and manageable. It never stops looking for the next step ahead in technology, education, culture, manufacturing and social responsibility. This includes environmental responsibility, which has been an essential ingredient in the company’s philosophy.

Intel has long focused on reducing emissions, recycling waste, conserving water and designing environment-friendly products. Its new 45nm products use a lead-free process and its packaging technology introduced in 2008 is halogen-free. From January 2008-June 2009, Intel spent RM10.54 million on environment programmes, of which RM8.52 million went towards internal programmes and RM2.02 million on external programmes. 2009 Honouree: Philips enables a simple switch

In 2007, Philips partnered with the Centre for Education, Training and Research in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CETREE) to drive home the need to manage energy to rural Malaysia.

In 2008, that programme was extended, using the Philips CETREE Energy-Efficient Mobile Showroom to bring information and tips on energy conservation and alternative energy sources to primary school children across Peninsular Malaysia.
